ACCESSIO Equity Partners Kockázati Tőkealap-kezelő Zrt. was established in 2017 as a private limited company with a share capital of HUF 5 million, which was increased to HUF 7.5 million in 2021. On 16 September 2020, the Central Bank of Hungary (MNB) issued its decision on the authorisation to perform collective portfolio management activities as an alternative investment fund manager. The company has thus been authorised and licensed to start managing venture capital funds. ACCESSIO Zrt. is owned 75% by the Közép-európai Vállalkozók Együttműködéséért Alapítvány (Foundation for the Cooperation of Central European Entrepreneurs) (KVEA) and 25% by Dr. János Bartha, a private individual. As majority shareholder, KVEA, carries out its activities in close cooperation with one of its founders, the Magyar Vállalkozásfejlesztési Alapítvány (Hungarian Foundation for Enterprise Promotion) (MVA). The decisions of MVA are guided by an independent Board of Trustees, headed by the Chairman, Dr. Imre Csuhaj-Varju, and the work organisation is led by Dr. Márton Braun. MVA has subscribed the investment fund shares issued by the START funds under management.

Miklós Balázs

He graduated from the Faculty of Science at Eötvös Loránd University with degrees in Geophysics and Astronomy and later earned a postgraduate diploma as an engineer-economist at the University of Economics (Corvinus University). He began his career at the Eötvös Loránd Geophysical Institute, where he was involved in the development of computer processing programs for deep drilling geophysical measurements and the evaluation of the measurements. His first foray into the field of economics was at KPMG, where he worked in asset valuation for state-owned enterprise privatisations and in both Hungarian and international audit areas. From there, he moved to OTP Bank Nyrt., where he was involved in portfolio management of the OTP Bank's subsidiaries as a portfolio manager. He later continued his career at the bank's Treasury Directorate, focusing on project financing as a project manager. Afterward, he worked at Budapest Leasing Zrt., handling asset risks and the management of risks as an asset manager, and later became the head of the asset leasing division at Merkantil Bank. He gained nearly a decade of experience in equity-based financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as the Director of Investment and Risk Management at Kisvállalkozás-fejlesztő Pénzügyi Zrt. Following that, he served as Deputy CEO of Finance at Duna Televízió Nonprofit Zrt. and later took on the role of managing director at an in-house company responsible for operations and technical services at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He then led the Portfolio Management Directorate at the Széchenyi Venture Capital Fund Management Zrt. before transitioning to his current role. He has been the CEO of ACCESSIO Zrt. since 2020 and currently also performs the duties of the Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Investment Committee.

Dr. Imre Csuhaj-Varju

He graduated as an economist from the University of Economics (Corvinus University) with a degree in mathematical planning. In his early years, he worked as a research scientist at the Institute of Labour Research, during which time he published about 40 works in Hungarian and English, including journal articles, book chapters, and co-authored books. In 1994, he joined the Hungarian Development Bank, where he led the Financial Investments Directorate. His responsibilities included establishing the first state-owned venture capital companies financed from privatisation revenues (the "Regional Development Companies," or RFTs). From then on, he participated in the establishment of several state and privately funded venture capital management companies and private equity funds, including Beszállítói Befektető Rt., Morando Venture Capital Management Zrt., and PortfoLion Venture Capital Management Zrt., which is OTP Bank Nyrt.'s venture capital fund manager. Under his leadership, the Széchenyi Venture Capital Fund received a unique EU operational license. From 2010 to 2019, he served as the CEO of Széchenyi Venture Capital Management Zrt. The company, in recognition of its high-standard investment activities, not only managed the Széchenyi Venture Capital Fund but also received the management of the Irinyi I and Irinyi II Venture Capital Funds, the Carpathian Basin Enterprise Development Venture Capital Fund, and the National Stock Market Development Fund. Afterward, he held the position of CEO at MFB Invest Venture Capital Management Zrt. and later became a chief advisor on financial policy to the President of the Hungarian National Bank. In addition, he holds numerous significant economic and academic positions, while serving as chairman of the board of trustees of the Hungarian Foundation for Enterprise Promotion. He was a co-author of the Hungarian Financial and Stock Exchange Almanac from 1996 to 1999. He regularly publishes in the daily newspaper Világgazdaság and is currently awaiting the publication of a book on the Hungarian venture capital market.

Dr. János Bartha

After studying at Carlton University in Ottawa, he earned his law degree at Eötvös Loránd University. He began his professional career at the Cental Bank of Hungary (MNB), where he was responsible for projects related to the IFC (the private sector financing arm of the World Bank), including the first Central- and Eastern European capital fund, the first joint-venture commercial bank, and the establishment of joint ventures in various industries. After 1988, as Deputy Head of the MNB Capital Markets Department, he was responsible for direct foreign investments in Hungary. In late 1990, he joined Credit Suisse First Boston Investment Bank (CSFB), when the firm opened its first Central and Eastern European subsidiary in Budapest. As Managing Director of CSFB Hungary, he initially focused on M&A and capital markets business, managing all of CSFB’s public and private equity and bond transactions in Hungary. From 1995, his responsibilities expanded as Managing Partner of CSFB Ltd., first to Poland and the Czech Republic, and from 1996, the investment banking activities he led covered the whole of Central and Eastern Europe. He has significant business experience in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, and Croatia, where he has acted as corporate advisor on M&A transactions and arranged bond issues in all of these countries. Currently, he is Chairman of the Board of GTC, a Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed Central and Eastern European real estate development/investment company managing a €2.5 billion real estate portfolio. Over the past two decades, he has made several private investments in healthcare, agribusiness, construction, and real estate development sectors in Hungary and Croatia.
